The Children of the War
The Kids Thoughts on the War
These group of people called the Human Rights Watch went to Darfur. They took notebooks, papers, pencils and crayons to the children. They wanted them to draw out what they saw, felt and whatever they had to get out and put it on paper. Most of the kids never even held a crayon before. Some kids didn’t even know how to write but some of the older ones could. Pretty much all the drawings were of the attacks on their people. Some were about the women and girls getting taking away so the soldier could do who knows what to them. Others were about the deaths that they have seen or the houses that got set on fire and the bombs that caused their people to run screaming trying to get away from the attacks. These children have seen so much and have to go on living their days in hide outs, homeless and in fear because they don’t know what can happen to them the next day. They never know what’s next, what big thing will hit them now. The only slight bit of relief they had was these drawings that the human rights people got to see. Something has to happen, for the children.
The situation is getting worse. There is more violence due to government officials. There is aid obstruction and there is no real plan to help the weakened state of the displaced Sudanese. The refugees and citizen have been displaced from their homes. They are in terribly weakened states. The people are forced to under go abuse, sexually and not, attacks and have no real shelter or enough food. It is feared that famine is to come. If nothing is to be done, all those who haven’t suffered will. Here is whats happening.
Rape has become one of the biggest crime against women in Darfur. It has given another way for the Janjaweed military to attack darfurians again. The janjaweed has already taken people out of their homes. The Women in Darfur must keep collecting fire wood, water or working from the fields. While doing this the women in Darfur and also the children are in jeopardy of getting raped, beat or death. Hundreds of Rapes have been reported and are still increasing. Yet there are still more then hundreds of women and children that have and can get raped but won’t have a chance to report it. In a place where rape is a big place the victims are often disliked by their own families and town. These ungrateful women have been forced to leave their town and also get punished for prohibited pregnancy as a consequence of being raped.
