The Truth About Darfur

The Truth About Darfur

The main problems

The darfur conflict is a conflict in the darfur

region of west sudan. Longer ago there was a

Sudanese Civil War. The difference between the two

is that the Sudanese Civil War was based on

religion, while the conflict going on now is about

tribal affairs. There are two sides of the armed

conflict. One of them is composed of the Sudanese

military and the Janjaweed, which is a militia

recruited mostly from arab tribes of northern

Rizeigat, camel herding nomads. The other side is

made up of rebel groups, notably the sudan

liberation movement and the justice and equality

movement. They were recruited mostly from the non

arabic fur zaghawa and massaleit ethnic groups. The

sudanese government puplicly denies that it supports

the janjaweed, however, it has provided money and

assistance to the militia and has participated in

joint attacks on the black african tripes from where

the rebels draw support. The conflict began

February, 2003. The sudanese government, and the

Janjaweed will many times go into villages and kill

innocents. They take captives and torture people

trying to get any information on the enemy out of

them, and take children to be soldiers in their war. This is genocide, this is what needs to be

stopped.
